THE ELDER – THE MUSICAL

SONGS OF THE ELDER

The Contemporary Elder Retreat and Departing Program are designed to source a transformation from older to elder. Therefore, the three transformation definitions are all appropriate for this state change from older to elder.

Here are the definitions, "a thorough or dramatic change in form or appearance; a metamorphosis during the life cycle of an animal; the induced or spontaneous change of one element into another by a nuclear process. Nuclear meaning relating to the nucleus of an atom or cell. In our case, we mean relating to the nucleus of "being."

The leaders and attendees understand that to undergo a metamorphosis of this profound nature, one route, one channel, isn't enough to produce this state change. A solo performer will not get it done. Instead, it is best to have the full-scale symphony orchestra assembled, tuned, and ready to play for this transformation.

In our model, we transition attendees from older to elder by expanding and networking together four primary domains of humanness (See Diagram I).

THE FOUR DOMAINS OF OLDER TO ELDER TRANSFORMATION

We have found that the more human elements engaged in the process, the greater the velocity, depth of insight, experience, knowledge, and wisdom attained and, more importantly, sustained.

Transformation does not occur in time but takes time to occur. Therefore, older to elder is an actual transformational event that once accomplished, is irreversible, irrevocable, and life-altering.

Through our work in these four domains, elders free themselves from the default societal conversations about aging, death, and dying. This freedom comes with regained personal power, greater inner peace, and an expanded ability to make a difference for oneself and others.

We go beyond the intellect and open other channels that enhance this renovation. So to enhance this shift from older to elder, one channel is music and music videos. Sight, sound, and powerful lyrics together have exceptional depth penetration.

We have chosen these songs because they illuminate and intensify eldership in the four domains presented above. These music videos are potent catalysts to make the older-to-elder reaction occur.

The melody and lyrics of these songs provoke and remind underlying experiences, insights, and events core to being an elder.

A song can bring the greatest joy or deepest pain and leaves you in the moment. Elders can allow it all, the joy and the pain, without becoming them and being in the moment.

OUR LISTENERS

Our elder engagements are for those senior executives and long-tenured healthcare providers about to exit or have left their professional careers. They have an intuitive sense, an emerging awareness, and uneasiness about their late-age future. They don't want to buy the bullsh*t, but they have no way of avoiding it either.

Somehow they know that leaving their well-mastered professional careers with their highly perfected personalities, egos, and identities, with all their knowledge and experience, will not carry the day in late aging.

What will they do now? Who will they be now? Elders have answers to these questions.
