Reverend Stephen Garrett is an interfaith minister, author, educator, grief counselor, and end-of-life guide who helps people transform their relationship with death, dying, and sorrow.

Since the mid-1990s, Stephen has worked in end-of-life care and death education—as a social worker, cremationist, hospice counselor, executive director of the Memorial Society of British Columbia, and trainer at Rhodes Wellness College. He is the author of four books, including When Death Speaks: Listen, Learn, and Love and Grief’s Walking Stick: A Personal Journey from Sorrow to Service. Stephen invites us to stop treating death as life’s unfortunate clerical error and recognize it as one of our greatest teachers. 

By helping people approach mortality with honesty, compassion, and even curiosity, he reveals how death can awaken us to what it means to be fully alive—and how grief, when witnessed rather than avoided, can deepen an Elder’s wisdom and service.
